TOUR OVERVIEW

Nepal Bike Expedition — Lo Manthang is Tony Bike Centre's most ambitious Nepal tour, taking riders deep into the forbidden kingdom of Upper Mustang — one of the last untouched Himalayan civilisations on earth. This is not just a motorcycle tour. It is a journey through ancient monasteries, dramatic desert canyons, Tibetan-influenced villages, and high-altitude passes that very few motorcyclists ever reach.

Riding from Kathmandu through the jungles of Chitwan, the historic streets of Tansen, the lakes of Pokhara, and the sacred hot springs of Tatopani — the route builds steadily before delivering you to the crown jewel: Lo Manthang, the walled capital of the ancient Mustang Kingdom, perched at over 3,800 metres above sea level.

With 60% of the route on unpaved terrain, multiple river crossings, and the raw beauty of the Kali Gandaki gorge riding alongside you — this is the tour for riders who want more than a road trip. This is an expedition.

DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 01 — Arrival in Kathmandu | Test Rides & Orientation

Your Nepal expedition begins in Kathmandu. On arrival, you will be introduced to your Royal Enfield for the journey ahead. Riders will carry out a thorough bike inspection using TBC's checklist and complete test rides to get comfortable with the machine. In the evening, join your fellow riders for an orientation meet — route briefings, safety guidelines, and the excitement of what lies ahead. Overnight: Kathmandu

Day 02 — Kathmandu → Chitwan

After breakfast, the group rolls out of Kathmandu on a scenic downhill ride through Nepal's lush countryside and small rural villages. Your destination today is Chitwan — Nepal's famous wildlife capital. After checking in, riders have the option to explore the national park and try a wildlife safari in the afternoon. A relaxed start before the adventure truly begins. Overnight: Chitwan

Day 03 — Chitwan → Tansen

An early start today as we head towards Tansen — one of Nepal's most beautifully preserved historic hill towns. The ride gradually climbs in altitude, offering a taste of the uphill terrain that will define much of the days ahead. Tansen's old bazaars, Newari architecture, and Himalayan views make it a wonderful overnight stop. Overnight: Tansen

Day 04 — Tansen → Pokhara

A predominantly riverside riding day as we follow the valleys and river roads towards Pokhara — Nepal's spectacular city of lakes. On arrival, riders are treated to breathtaking views of the Annapurna mountain range and its surrounding peaks. Pokhara offers excellent restaurants, lakeside cafes, and a well-deserved evening of rest. Overnight: Pokhara

Day 05 — Pokhara → Tatopani

Leaving Pokhara after breakfast, today's ride takes us to the iconic Kushma Bridge — one of the longest suspension bridges in Nepal and a stunning photo stop. From here, the route winds uphill through dramatic gorges and river valleys towards Tatopani, famous for its natural hot water springs. After a long day in the saddle, soaking in the hot springs is pure reward. Overnight: Tatopani

Day 06 — Tatopani → Jomsom

Today the landscape transforms dramatically. As we climb higher, the lush green mountain scenery of the lower valleys gives way to the arid, windswept terrain of the Mustang region. We ride through the legendary Marpha village — famous across Nepal for its apple orchards and apple brandy — before arriving at Jomsom, the gateway to Upper Mustang. Your first real taste of the Mustang valley awaits. Overnight: Jomsom

Day 07 — Jomsom → Lo Manthang ⭐ The Crown Jewel

The most challenging and most rewarding day of the entire expedition. Today we ride into Upper Mustang — a restricted region that remained closed to the outside world until 1992 and still carries the soul of an ancient Tibetan kingdom. The route involves multiple river crossings, dramatic canyon landscapes in shades of red and ochre, and 80% off-road terrain. Riders must wear full thermal gear — altitude and temperature at the high crossings can be extreme. Arriving at Lo Manthang — the ancient walled capital of the Mustang Kingdom — is a moment you will never forget. Overnight: Lo Manthang

Day 08 — Lo Manthang → Jomsom | Muktinath Temple

We begin the day early with a visit to the sacred Muktinath Temple — one of the holiest sites in Nepal, revered by both Hindus and Buddhists alike. Situated at 3,710 metres, the temple and its surroundings are spiritually and visually magnificent. After sightseeing, we make our return ride down to Jomsom. Overnight: Jomsom

Day 09 — Jomsom → Pokhara

A long but beautiful riding day — approximately 175 km — back to the city of lakes. The route follows the mighty Kali Gandaki River through its gorge (one of the deepest in the world), passing through local villages and traditional settlements along the way. A fitting farewell to the mountains before the final leg. Overnight: Pokhara

Day 10 — Pokhara → Kathmandu | Departure

After breakfast, we ride the final stretch back to Kathmandu along the mountain highway — a busy but enjoyable road with good views throughout. On arrival in Kathmandu, riders can rest, explore the city one last time, or head directly to the airport for their onward journey. The expedition ends here — but the memories ride on forever.

This is a serious adventure expedition. The Lo Manthang route involves high altitude, extreme weather, river crossings, and predominantly off-road terrain. Riders should be experienced, physically fit, and well-prepared.

  • Minimum rider age: 21 years
  • Minimum group size to operate the tour: 10 TBC bikes
  • If a group has fewer than 10 TBC bikes, the tour may be cancelled — riders may be offered a place on the next available TBC tour
  • Riders must have and wear proper riding gear (helmet, jacket, gloves, riding boots, thermal layers) — riders without appropriate gear will not be permitted to join the group
  • If a rider leaves the tour midway for any reason, the cost of transporting the motorcycle back to Kathmandu will be borne entirely by that rider
  • No refund will be provided for riders who leave the tour midway under any circumstances
  • Tony Bike Centre, its partners, hotels, and operators shall not be held responsible for additional costs arising from unforeseen natural events, political situations, or weather-related diversions
